Janet Glaes PhD, LPC, NCC

Taking the step to find a counselor and begin receiving counseling services takes courage. I believe that we are all on a journey and there are times when we lose our way and lose hope. When this happens, it is good to find someone who will walk along side you until you find your way again. Counseling can provide you with that someone.

My professional career began in the K-12 school setting as an elementary teacher. I soon realized that my passion was in helping my students and their families with their social/emotional struggles. I practiced as a school counselor, working with elementary and middle school students and their parents. I have also worked as a counselor educator, and as a supervisor for limited licensed counselors in Michigan.

As a therapist, I am honored to work with clients helping them to find hope and a fulfilling life. Every experience you have encountered in your life has led you to this exact point in time. Although we can't change the difficult situations from your past, through counseling we can work together to better understand and resolve the current challenges in your life. Through an integrative therapeutic approach, we will discover the ways you may be holding yourself back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I work with couples, children, and adults and have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, marital issues, parenting, infertility, and adoption. I mainly come from a person-centered, experiential and humanistic approach. I also draw from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). If a client requests it, I can provide Christian counseling, and have experience with forgiveness work. I am also trained in Gottman Couples' Counseling (Level II), Dialectical Behavior Training (DBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
